Now this is my first post on this beautiful website and I really must say, what has taken me so long. As I sit towards the end of the work day I realize that this post should have been written at the end of 2009, since it is about a song from 2009. But first, let me digress for a second. When I say end of the work day, I mean the end of a “standard” workday. Soon you realize no one works a “standard” work day anymore. Instead, you just work until you feel like giving up. And your eyes start to bleed out of your head from staring at 12-inch computer screen for 10 straight hours. Technology blows. So does your boss. Awesome isn’t it?
But anyways, back to the topic at hand, which is the Black Eyed Peas, and more specifically their leader, William. (You see what name it is without the periods…William! Adults can be so clever!) I personally love the Black Eyed Peas because they make great dance music, and who doesn’t like to dance. And they make especially great dancing with ladies music. I think every girl likes something about BEP. They may like Fergie because she is the only girl, they may like them cause they make catchy songs, or like the rest of us, they hear them every 5 minutes on the radio and you have no choice but to like them. So I like to dance and I like ladies. Perfect combo. And that’s why we all need more Will.I.Am.
You probably all will disagree with me, but ‘I Got A Feelin” was the best song of 2009. I know you all think that the song got “played out way too much” like countless pop songs before. And yes you are right. But this song was different to kids who graduated college in the past couple of years like myself. For some reason, this song had everything. It had a good beat, it had nonsensical rhyming and wording, (anyone who can yell Mazel Tov in a song gets bonus points in my book), and the song had a shear lack of anything resembling structure. And that’s what we all want after college. More bullshit. This song basically talked about going back to college or a close resemblance (like a casino or ‘The Jersey Shore’). All we want to do is have a good time, and not have to think. And I want to do it everyday of the goddamn week. Did the song really talk about anything? Should it have? Fuck and No!
Now I love certain parts of the real world: No tests, no retarded dorm peoples, no practice, Money, Drinking with work people for free, having everyone look at you like your absolutely nuts for drinking PBR out of bottles or at a bar. But ‘I Got a Feelin” is what we all need in the real world. Just a release, for one night. Why do you think we get New Year’s Day off? Because we need New Years Day off. So just remember, the more Will.I.Am, the better. It means more girls for the rest of us, and more gambling.
Mazel Tov!!
(As for the greatest song of 2010: Definitely “Pants on the Ground!”)
