Phantasy Baseball

Here’s the thing about fantasy baseball, it’s not my fantasy, it’s somebody else’s fantasy.  And, it’s not much of a fantasy at all.  Really, it’s just a way for people to keep up with baseball stats in a semi-competitive way.  What’s worse, I’ve heard that there isn’t much of a competition to it because it all comes down to the draft.  But I’ve got a better idea.

Phantasy Baseball takes all the “fun” of regular fantasy baseball and adds a lot more phantasy to it.

See, it all started when I was talking about how stupid it was for Alex Rodriguez to have ever gone to the Yankees when he could have been remembered as one of the greatest short stops of all time (of allllll tiiiime). Then I said something like, “if I had a fantasy baseball team, I would put A-Rod at short and Jeter at third and keep the rest of the team the same and see who does better.”  Then I was informed that that’s not how fantasy baseball works.  At all.  Apparently you just draft people and they play whatever position they always play, and you just get points for their stats.  Well now, that’s all about to change.

In Phantasy Baseball you get to truly live out your fantasy for who you would want on a baseball team in your perfect view of the world.  This means that A-Rod could go back to short-stop, Mariano Rivera could become a starter, and Pedro Martinez could be fielding balls at second base.  But it’s also much, much more than that… LeBron James could be your DH, Junior Seau can be your third baseman, and Mickey Mantle could be back from the dead playing Center Field.  And it doesn’t stop there because Flo-Rida would be playing catcher, Mario and Luigi would be playing right and left field, and a Tyrannosaurus Rex would be your new first baseman.

Now, I haven’t exactly figure out all the ins-and-outs of how keeping stats would work (something tells me that google trends would come in handy at some point) but this could be a lot of fun.  You could also have all sorts of different leagues.  Like, the Star Wars league where you’re only allowed to play characters from that universe, or the World of Warcraft league.  You could do all sorts of crazy shit.

That’s my phantasy, that’s the world I would like to one day live in
