Rant: why you shouldn’t talk in the first person collective

I can’t stand it when people talk in the first person collective. Like, I fucking hate it. It it pisses me off to no end, and for some stupid reason, I’m now hearing it all the time. I don’t know if our school systems have just started skipping over point-of-view in English classes, or if  socialist group-think has just straight up permeated the youth of today, but it seems to me like every second sentence I hear around campus is: “Oh, we hate her!” or “we are just soo hungry” or “oh, we just want you to shut the fuck up and take a fucking opinion of your own.”

Listen, when you speak exclusively in terms of what “we” want to do, you take away any self-confidence in your claims. They immediately become a moot point because they now lack conviction. By hiding behind the group voice, you nullify independent thought and give up your own opinions because you don’t want to make a claim that might be against something one of your stupid friends thinks. It’s stupid, and really just bad English.

You’re a grown fucking adult, so take responsibility for both your actions and your opinions. If you want to go get cookies, go fucking get them yourself. Don’t announce to the group “okay, we’re getting cookies;” say, “I’m going to get cookies, anybody want some?” I swear to god, even if your friends think to themselves that you’re fat, making the statement in the collective isn’t going to change a fucking thing.

Here’s an exercise for you, if you want to say “we,” actually mean it. If “we” don’t like someone, make sure you ask the opinion of everyone in your stupid fucking collective to make sure that “we” really don’t like her. If “we’re” eating cookies, everyone better be getting their fucking chow down on those cookies. And if for some stupid reason “we” are all so tired, it better be because “we” have been involved in an orgy all night and didn’t get any sleep.

That’s it. Jumbro, out.
