If you’re going to study something that provides no real job security or future, you have to be creative with thinking of ways to use it. I will now put my Art History degree towards something somewhat useful: The Discussion of the Dorm Poster. The beginning of the year poster sale is a ritual that occurs on campuses across the country. The problem is, everyone winds up with the same shit hanging on their walls. So your walls don’t end up looking like the rest of campus, I’m gonna give you a rundown on the most common dorm posters out there, and why you should probably avoid them.

Hot Half-Naked Girls- Really common. I know its a guy thing, but it sort of sketches girls out. Your call.
Hot Half-Naked Girls Playing Beer Pong- Not to be confused with the previous category. Usually containing bad puns involving the word “rack” or “balls,” these posters are incredibly popular despite the fact that the owners would never actually choose a girl as their beer pong partner.
Cars- Not a good idea if you want to get laid.
Art- Van Gogh’s Starry Night, Monet’s Waterlilies, blah blah blah. I guess it shows that you are a thoughtful and cultural person, but seriously, when everyone has the same exact poster “paintings” it gets a little old.
Audrey Hepburn/Marilyn Monroe- Yes, I have a vagina so it’s imbedded in my genes to love them too, but REALLY cliche.
Movies/Bands- Pretty common, but lots of these are really well designed. They can be good conversation starters, but it really depends on what you put up. I know it goes without saying, but no Twilight. Even ironically.
Quotes/Lists/Etc- Some of these are only funny the first time you read them, so choose wisely.
The bottom line is, if you buy something at your school’s sale, there’s gonna be SOMEONE who has the same poster as you. Just choose something you want to live with for a long time, because once work piles up, I assure you that you’re gonna be spending a lot of time staring at your wall zoning out.
