The update where I rant about the whole Michael Vick/Dante Stallworth thing

We haven’t had a whole lot of updates all summer, I get it, yeah. But sice Calvin and Braulio have both been dropping the ball on this site, and Ive been busy as shit getting ripped as hell, we have an excuse, I guess. Anyway, expect more once school starts up again. In the mean time, I’m going to bitch about how the media is treating this Michael Vick situation. Anyway, here it is… now you can waste five minutes. The rest after the break.

I’ve had just about e-goddamned-nough of hearing about Michael Vick.

If been living without SportsCenter for the last three years, Michael Vick and some of his skeazy friends for the longest time bred pit bulls and had them fight. Dogfight. The man got caught, and so did his buddies. He went to jail for two years, got suspended from the NFL, and went bankrupt in the process. Now, after he’s served his federally mandated time, he’s signed a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, and the citizens of the United States are going fucking wild with outrage that this (and I’m quoting hundreds of internet commenters around the world) “MONSTER OF A HUMAN!!!!” could even be considered to play professional football again.

Grow the fuck up.

In today’s society, it’s becoming more and more common for athlete’s to be vilified for the smallest of things. If a professional baseball player uses steroids to keep up with the enormous expectations the fans have of him, he is made out to be a cheating scumbag, and every one of his accomplishments nullified; if an NBA player is so pissed, he forgoes shaking the hands of his opponents after a game 6 playoff loss, he’s turned into the epitome of everything that’s wrong with sports. But, that’s culture, I guess. What really gets me is the fucking hypocrisy of sports fans.

Yes, Michael Vick did terrible, terrible things to dogs. Yes, when you look at the dogs that came out of Bad Newz Kennels, your heart breaks. But, Michael Vick did his time. He served his sentence in full. He cried “almost every night.” I think the man is really sorry for what he did.

But we just can’t let it go. PETA will protest every single Eagles game, you know that. There will be boycotts of Eagles merchandise, games, and somebody will probably even shoot a bald eagle just because they’re so pissed off at the Eagles organization. Dick’s Sporting Goods, a national retailer of all things sports, has decided not to stock Vick jersey’s in stores because of controversy surrounding the man. It sickens me. And yet, all of this is going on, while Dante Stallworth serves his time in prison.

Now you may not have heard about this because of all the focus on Michael Vick, so let me refresh your memory. Dante Stallworth got hammered one night, decided to drive himself to the beach, and ran all the fuck over Mario Reyes, a pedestrian just walking across the street, and killed him. Now Michael Vick got two years for dogfighting and Plaxico Buress got two years cause he shot himself in the leg. You’d think their sentencing would pale in comparison to the one Stallworth would get for vehicular manslaughter, right?

Hah. Wrong.

Mr. Stallworth will be spending 28 days in jail and two years on house arrest. After that, 8 years of probation and he’s golden. What the fuck is up with that?

So I guess what I’m really trying to say here is, why the fuck are we seeing Stallworth jerseys in stores, not saying a word about his killing a dude, and instead focusing all our attention on Michael Vick?

Is it because, in the sage words of mkim269 “[Vick] can never say SORRY to those animals SO WHY SHOULD WE THE FANS?” It can’t be, because Dante sure as hell can’t say sorry to “that man” and neither can we. In the end, all I really want to see are some fucking standards for all the outrage.
